Daniel Sandford (Bishop of Tasmania)

Daniel Fox Sandford (25 July 1831 - 20 August 1906〔(thepeerage.com )〕) was the Bishop of Tasmania from 1883〔The Times, Monday, 30 Apr 1883; pg. 6; Issue 30807; col B ''The New Bishop Of Tasmania.-The Rt Rev DF Sandford''〕 until 1889.〔Crockford's clerical directory1975-76 Lambeth, Church House, 1975 ISBN 01o8153674〕
Educated at Glasgow University and ordained in 1854 he was Chaplain to the Bishop of Edinburgh, during which time he was elected a Fellow of the Royal Society of Edinburgh. Subsequently a vicar,〔(Incumbency details )〕 then canon within the area he was elevated to the Colonial Episcopate in 1883. Returning to England six years later he became Rector of Boldon and Coadjutor to the Bishop of Durham〔(Online biography )〕
His brother was Francis, Baron Sandford and their father was Sir Daniel Sandford, himself a son of Daniel Sandford, the Bishop of Edinburgh from 1806-1830.
He is buried in the upper terrace of St Johns Church at the west end of Princes Street in Edinburgh.
